For the eighth event in this year’s Tuesday@Secession series, we are delighted to welcome back Susana Pilar Delahante Matienzo to the garden of the Secession.

“I think performance has no physical or conceptual limits. I believe it is the form of creative expression closest to life itself.”
Susana Pilar Delahante Matienzo
At the beginning of the summer, the Secession's “black dome” constituted a highlyvisible symbol against racism, as well as standing for the dignity and achievements of black women. The idea for this spectacular intervention, in which the almost 2500 laurel leaves on the dome were individually covered with black stockings, came about during the conception of the performance Statement, which Susana Pilar Delahante Matienzo performed under the dome on the opening evening and in which she reflected on her identity as a Black woman and artist, as well as the role of performance in her work.
This evening of Tuesday@Secession is dedicated to examining Susana Pilar Delahante Matienzo's extensive performance work; exploring themes such as Blackness, racism and invisibility. It begins with a screening of a selection of her performance documentations, and is then followed by a discussion in which the artist comments on and contextualizes her work.
The temporary intervention Statement was on display from 20 June to 3 July, while the solo exhibition Achievement runs in the Grafisches Kabinett runs until 8 September.
