The Hidden Treasures is a soundscape project comprised of the collection of sounds and images from villages (Igil-ri, Yugok-ri, etc.) where civilian access is restricted near the DMZ, the Hantan River basin, and the ecological environment of the Southern Limit Line where human mobility has been halted for a long period of time. Kim captures the 'sound' of the natural ecosystem that has been preserved for a long time in the historical and geographical reality of the division of the Southern Limit Line region and realizes it through installation art. This guides the audience to indirectly experience unfamiliar places they have not yet experienced through the vegetation in places where human tracks are sparse and the hidden sounds flowing from the Hantan River basin.Biography:
Joon Kim, born 1976 in Seoul, KR, has created soundscapes based on his detailed studies of geology and its communications, by recording sounds generated from specific places and retranslating these audible notes into archival form. By using a variety of mediums to present these Acoustic Ecology from an audio ecological perspective based on soundscapes, Kim explores how the imperceptible sound waves have influence over Eco Acoustic and its perceptions. Through his practice, Kim reconstructs his collection of sounds and images as a perceptible medium that transpires to the visitors' imagination and experience.
