Matthias Herrmann (b. Munich, 1963) was a member of the Vienna State Opera’s ballet company from 1986 until 1988. From 1998 until 1993, he studied conceptual art with Ernst Caramelle and Brigitte Kowanz at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. He was a member of the board of the Vienna Secession from 1997 until 1999 and elected its president (the youngest one since Gustav Klimt) in 1999. He was a professor of art and photography at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 2006 until 2012 and, after resigning from teaching, a member of the academic advisory board from 2013 until 2018. The artist, who has been represented by Galerie Steinek (www.steinek.at) since 1999, now lives in Vienna and Riparbella (Italy), where he runs an organic farm with his husband.
Rike Frank has been interested in institutional models since the 1990s, works as a curator, publishes and occasionally teaches exhibition histories and curatorial practice. Since 2020, she has been executive director of the Berlin Artistic Research Program and, together with Vanessa Joan Müller, leads the European Kunsthalle.
