Lazar Lyutakov im Gespräch mit Luca Lo Pinto

Donnerstag, 29.6.2023, 18.00 Uhr

Exhibition talk: Lazar Lyutakov in conversation with Luca Lo Pinto

Lazar Lyutakov was born in Shabla, Bulgaria, in 1977. He studied at the National Academy of Arts in Sofia and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. His work has been shown at Simian, Copenhagen (2021), at the 2019 Venice Biennale, where he represented Bulgaria together with Rada Boukova, at the 6th Moscow Biennale and at the MAK, Vienna (both 2015), and elsewhere. Lyutakov’s artistic practice reflects on contemporary conditions of production and forms of consumption, on flows of capital and commodities as well as aesthetic mass phenomena. Carefully selected objects and artisan craftwork, adapted and revalued through targeted interventions, gesture toward the contrast between one-of-a-kind creations and serial products, speaking to values, productivity, quality, and utility in a post-capitalist industrialized world.

Luca Lo Pinto is artistic director of MACRO—Museum of Contemporary Art Rome. He was a curator at Kunsthalle Wien from 2014 until 2019 and is a cofounder of the magazine and publishing venture NERO. He has produced a series of solo exhibitions with artists including Simone Forti, Nathalie du Pasquier, Jason Dodge, Tony Cokes, Cinzia Ruggeri, Camille Henrot, Olaf Nicolai, Pierre Bismuth, Babette Mangolte, Lawrence Weiner, Gelatin & Liam Gillick, Charlemagne Palestine, Lisa Ponti, and Darren Bader and publications with Emilio Prini, Mario Garcia Torres, and Mario Diacono. In 2012, Lo Pinto edited the publication Documenta 1955–2012. The Endless Story of Two Lovers. He has contributed to numerous exhibition catalogues and written for periodicals including Spike, Mousse, Flash Art, Purple, and Rolling Stone.
