Alex Da Corte im Gespräch mit Kim Nguyen

Alex Da Corte (b. Camden, N. J., 1980) works with things and materials that are detached from their original function to give them new potential, both symbolically and formally. In engaging with them, Da Corte tries to put aside his own touch in order to reveal and locate the previous touches, the objects’ own stories. He creates large-scale installations that often include wall-based works, floor pieces, sculptures, lights, colors, and scents as well as works by other artists.

Recent solo exhibitions have included shows at Luxembourg & Dayan, New York, the ICA Philadelphia, and White Cube, London. Selected group exhibitions: Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Denmark, MoMA, New York, and the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles.

Da Corte lives and works in Philadelphia.

Kim Nguyen is curator and head of programs at The Wattis Institute, San Francisco. Nguyen was formerly director and curator of Artspeak, a longstanding artist-run non-profit in Vancouver, Canada. Between 2011 and 2016 she presented exhibitions and publications with artists such as Valérie Blass, Yuji Agematsu, Abigail DeVille, Aaron Flint Jamison, Danh Vo, and Alex Da Corte. Her writing has appeared in exhibition catalogues and periodicals. Nguyen is the recipient of the 2015 Hnatyshyn Foundation Award for Emerging Curators in Contemporary Canadian Art and the 2016 Joan Lowndes Award from the Canada Council for the Arts for excellence in critical and curatorial writing. She is currently completing her first collection of writings.

Nguyen lives and works in San Francisco.
