For the final iteration of this year’s Tuesday@Secession series, Carola Dertnig has invited LA GEORGETTA to perform in the garden of the Secession. This will be followed by a screening from Renate Kordon.
“Carola Dertnig presents” LA GEORGETTA
cutting the ribbon
LA GEORGETTA is a mixed media performance artist. She works with photography, collages, drawings, text, installations, self-staging and actions. LA GEORGETTA plays in her works with gender roles, clichés, prejudices, religion, politics and convention.
The focus of the performance lies on countless red-white-red ribbons that are just waiting to be cut. This time, LA GEORGETTA is visually all about politics from head to toe and could have just popped out of a parliamentary session.
What is left over when real solutions are missing? Being seen, inaugurating things, shaking hands, cutting ribbons, smiling diligently into the camera. Just don’t be too quick! At the end of the opening ceremony, one envelope shall appear – the answer to all our sorrows lies within.
"The grin is a basic feature of every world view, which never doubts itself, but always doubts whether other human beings can be expected to accept the truth, although it claims sovereignty of definition over both the term "human being" and the term "truth"." (Michael Köhlmeier, in: Der Standard, ALBUM, 06.11.2021)

8 animated films inscribe themselves
into the Secession building for the ephemeral moment of projection.
Images of light
captured on celluloid
for a fleeting instant,
scattered in the darkened space
at night,
in the darkened space of the world.
Felt movement
from the tension of the inner self
transformed into the rhythm of time,
cast onto the wall as an illusion.
Inside the cone of light,
between film strip and image surface,
amidst the projection of the innermost self,
lies the diffuse space of contemplation.
